About

Amaka Ozah Winslow received her Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from New York Medical College. She has over 16 years of experience working in pediatric dysphagia. Amaka specializes in pediatric dysphagia and has incorporated her sub-specialty in orofacial myofunctional disorders into her feeding practice. Her clinical focus is in the treatment of complex pediatric dysphagia, orofacial myology treatment for patients under 4 years, and use of telemedicine to increase caregiver empowerment. She is currently employed at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems where she currently serves as an Affiliate Faculty Member for the VCU Pediatric School of Dentistry. In this role she oversees the Orofacial-Feeding clinical rotation for 2nd Year Dental Residents, during which she provides collaborative training in feeding and orofacial myofunctional disorders. In addition to this role, she works full-time in the Feeding Department providing therapeutic care for patients with a range of pediatric feeding disorders (ARFID, food selectivity, sensory processing disorder, autism, craniofacial malformations, feeding tube dependency, etc.). Her current collaboration with the VCU Dental Department allows her to synthesize her clinical training and education in pediatric dysphagia with orofacial myology, thus providing unique insights in her clinical training program with the Dental Residents as they learn to identify the interplay between orofacial myofunctional disorders and pediatric feeding disorders.

Amaka’s special trainings and methods include:
-Member of the International Association of Orofacial Myology
-Board Certified Orofacial Myologist/COM®
-AmpCare (Effective Swallowing Protocol) Certified
